Research and International Cooperation
The Italian Istituti Zooprofilattici Sperimentali (IIZZSS) play a vital role for activity research in the field of animal health, food safety, livestock farming and animal primary production, animal welfare, pharmacovigilance , epidemiologic surveillance.
The Italian Ministry of Health is the first financing body although, at present, the cultural development and the scientific expertise of the researchers combined with the availability of high-tech equipments have led to an increasing number of contracting entities by other bodies.
The reasearch activities financed by the Ministry of Health through the National Health Fund are subdivided into finalized and current research projects.

Current Research Projects
Current research projects are strictly connected to the competences of the IIZZSS and related to territorial items, with a national level impact
Several projects are developed in collaboration with other IIZZSS, Universities, ASL (the Italian Local Health Authorities) and other Research Bodies
Other Projects
Other Projects is financed by International Bodies, such as the European Union as well as by Public Boards such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of the Environment, the Regions, the Provinces and the Regional Agencies for the Agricultural Development.
International cooperation
International cooperation is carried out with UE members, Third Countries , as Developing Countries; some projects are part of FAO plans.
