Economic impact of good beekeeping practices
A round table was held on December 12 in Rome at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Lazio e della Toscana on the economic impact of the good practices in apiculture, that is one of the core aspects and outputs of BPRACTICES project.
The goal of the round table was the focus on needs for BPRACTICES, their economic impact and try to agree on recommendations for the next steps and future. The context of the BPRACTICES project was explained by the coordinator Giovanni Formato. Here below a short description of the topics discussed:
- Economic impact of good practices in beekeeping (costs/incomes, organic vs conventional, productivity, resilience of EU beekeeping) – CONAPI data and Surveys from Professional beekeepers distributed in Montefiascone. By Diego Pagani, Norberto Garcia, Max Runzel
- Data Mining for Best Practices validation: humidity and temperature was presented together with the results on the surveys concerning Good Practices disseminated through TECA/FAO, compliance and feasibility study of GBPs application by Awad Hassan, Edgar Hassler, Andrew Scott, Adam Newmark Joseph Cazier, from Appalachian State University
- Traceability system: the BPRACTICES project is characterised by the development of an innovative traceability system based on QRCode/RFID technology and a user-friendly web application, which will interact with producers and consumers. This was was explained by Marco Pietropaoli and Flemming Vejsnaes.
- TECA Platform: a page devoted to BPRACTICES project has been created on the TECA Platform to fill the gap in the knowledge sharing process and provide practical information on proven agricultural innovations to a global audience, promoting a sustainable and inclusive rural transformation and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The presentation was held by Charlotte Lietaer (FAO).
