The network of Institutes

The Istituti zooprofilattici on the national territory constitute a network of excellence operating in concert with the Ministry of Health and in close contact with the regional veterinary services and the local health services to assure at the National Health Service diagnostic activities, epidemiological surveillance, research and training directly linked to the areas of health and animal welfare, zoonoses, diseases transmissible from animals to humans, and food safety, in compliance with the quality and prevention standards established by the European Union.

The Network of Institutes in numbers:

• 10 central sites and 90 peripheral diagnostic sections
• More than 2,500 employees, graduates in Veterinary Medicine, in Biological Sciences, in Chemistry, Computer Science, Statistics, Agricultural Sciences and Economics and Humanities, Biomedical Laboratory Technicians and Administrative Staff.
